About the event
Additional information from walk leader, David Ferguson:
MEETING POINT IS THE SPREAD EAGLE CAR PARK ENTRANCE OPPOSITE THE PUB/ HOTEL.
Their car park could be busy for Saturday lunch & also for visitors staying there so I’d like to suggest “on road” parking for us. As you arrive at the village with the Abbey ruins on your right the road is wide & parking is available on the right from the Abbey along to the SE car park. Just past the car park if you turn right there is more parking on the left hand side. Additionally just over Sawley Bridge a small lay-by offers space for 3 or 4 cars.
10-00am start with check in beforehand as is the norm.
My Garmin measured the route @ 9.9 miles.
Route: Sawley Bridge/ Hell Syke Bridge/Bolton Hall/Fooden Hall/Park House/ Gisburn Bridge ( planned lunch stop)/Coppice Farm- onto Ribble Way/Steep Wood/ Gisburn Cotes/Dockber/Sawley
Terrain: The walk covers lots of pastureland & was soft underfoot in places but nothing too deep. No hard climbs just a gentle plod up the road from Gisburn Bridge to hit the Ribble Way & a steep flight of steps & tracks from river level up through the aptly named “ Steep Wood”.
